Two Down, Several To Go

I've crossed a few items off of my to-do list!

Gone are:

1.  Add an Etsy mini to this blog. -- Check it out in my sidebar!

2. Update this blog to show Mr. M's first completed job. -- Enjoy the before and after pics!

4. Figure out how to get Google Analytics to work.  -- I've set up the account and everything, and now I'm just waiting to see if it actually works.  I'll keep you posted.

Only two more items to go!

Not Too Shabby

So, I've determined that Mr. M is not too experienced with taking before and after photos.  I don't think any of his photos were taken at the same angle.  Either way, here are some pics from his first job, laying laminate wood flooring in a bedroom, and peel-and-stick tile in a bathroom.

Here's the before of the bedroom floor:

And the after:

Not too shabby!

And the bathroom before:

And after:

Okay, so maybe he can shoot the same angles sometime.  I just noticed that now that I posted the pictures.  I think the lack of a toilet in the after picture threw me off.

By the way, I love the paint color that the homeowners chose for the bedroom.

Yay for my hubby's first job with his own business!

I Was Never Good at Juggling

I really don't know how some people do it. If one or two things are added to my usual schedule, I instantly become overwhelmed and at a loss for what to do.

I'm hoping to pick up the frequency of my posts here, but it's definitely hard to do. You figure, I work full-time, then come home and work out for an hour or so, shower, make dinner, and by then, it's going on 7 or 8 in the evening, and all I want to do is flop down on the couch and do nothing. And, if I start working with my Etsy shop (which I'll have a link to soon, I promise!) or anything else, I start feeling guilty because I'm not spending time with Mr. M. But, I know that my Etsy shop isn't just going to grow on its own. What is a girl to do?

I've also been a list-maker, and I'm thinking I need to start setting some weekly goals. I'll write them on a list, then cross them out as their finished. Maybe I won't feel so overwhelmed, then.

So, on my to do list for the next two weeks (I'll be on vacation next week) will be:
  1. Add an Etsy mini to this blog.
  2. Update this blog to show Mr. M's first completed job.
  3. Give an update on our first wedding anniversary.
  4. Figure out how to get Google Analytics to work.
  5. Get more involved in the Etsy community and possibly gain some new contacts.
I think that's do-able....

A Few Speed Bumps

To keep track of the finances and such with Mr. M's business, we were originally planning on just using Numbers, which is part of the iWork software for the Mac. Apparently, our tax advisor said that wasn't good enough and we needed to get Quickbooks. Oh, and open a business account. So, we got Quickbooks, and that's as far as we've gotten. It asks all these crazy questions when you create a new business profile, and I believe it was the fourth question we got to before we gave up and realized we need to talk to our tax person again. Yay for Quickbooks we can't use yet.

In the meantime, Mr. M developed a serious muscle spasm in his back. He stands all crooked right now. It takes a lot for him to want to see a doctor, and yesterday must have been enough because he saw a doctor, got some good meds, and will start physical therapy this afternoon. So, he's now struggling with his back, plus the mentality that he's just not pulling his weight and that he's letting me down. Which he's totally not at all. I think it's God's way of telling him to take it easy for a bit.

On a good note. He finished his first job the other week. I'll post some pictures later on. And, he just got another contract signed this past weekend, plus two other people that are interested in him doing some work. So, things are already looking up as far as work for his business goes, and I'm very happy for that. Mr. M puts a lot of pressure on himself as being the provider for us, but since work has been slow for him lately, he's really been struggling with that. Now, all he's struggling with, regarding work at least, is when he's going to stop helping this other guy out and branch off on his own. Oh, to learn to balance...

This weekend is our one-year wedding anniversary! We're keeping it simple for the day of our anniversary purely because a week and a half after that, we'll be headed to the Outer Banks for a friend's wedding/anniversary trip. And I can't wait for our big, huge, cake top to get out of our freezer!!

I'm hoping to start posting pictures soon. I've just been too lazy with the camera lately. There's just way too much going on right now, and it's exponentially more than what I've written about here.

A Quick Intro

Where do I begin? Lately, I have been dealing with Spring Fever, and tons of new ideas and ambitions. This is combined with the uncertainty and stress of my husband, whom I'll call, Mr. M, starting his own home improvement business. I thought it was bad enough when we were jumping through hoops and getting tangled in red tape just to get his license -- Maryland is tough!

I'll begin by saying that Mr. M has been in the construction field for 12+ years. But, he's always worked for other people. Over the years, he's learned a little bit about the business aspect of things, but not quite as much as he'd anticipated he'd need for his own business. He's just now learning how to bid a job, draw up contracts that cover his butt and his clients' butts, pay business taxes and set up his own business account, keep track of all of his expenses and income, and the list goes on. And, on top of it all, he hasn't touched a computer in years and years! It was a process just to teach him how to use e-mail, but he's already doing quite well with that. But, he is learning how easy it is to get addicted to it, too!

So, while I'm dealing with his voiced uncertainties about his business and random work schedule, I have to deal with a job where I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day and do science stuff. I enjoy it for the most part, but I really miss interacting with people. So, I'm in the process of starting an Etsy shop (which I'll post more about later), debating becoming a Pampered Chef consultant, and starting numerous DIY projects for our home. Whew!

This blog will hopefully help get my thoughts together, give me an outlet to rant every once in a while, and maybe pull ideas and advice from any readers. Wish me luck!
