Wear I Work - To Boldly Go

Top: Ann Taylor, Sweater: New York & Company, Jeans: New York & Company, Shoes: Old!,
Belt: Old Navy, Necklace: Premier Designs

Here's a quick tip for today. If something catches your eye on the hanger, like a bold print such as the one above, but there are other things about the piece that you are unsure about, try it on! You really never know how things will look unless you try them on. Something that may appear completely ugly or cheap on the hanger may look incredibly chic when you wear it. Such was the case for the top above. Granted, it is from Ann Taylor and I found it on the clearance rack, but I am still very wary of quality. And, at first glance, this top appeared to be not too good in the quality department. I made myself try it on anyway and instantly fell in love with it. Plus, it is not a knit! I had mentioned in this post that I needed to expand my horizons away from everything knit, and this is my first step. Go me!

Fill In the Blank Friday

I bought a dry erase calendar for Mr. M. Since business has been picking up, he has had very little downtime. It doesn't help that once he's focused on something, that is all he is really focused on. For a while, it felt like I was clamoring for some one-on-one time with him and was beginning to get really jealous of his business. I also noticed that he was stressing a bit more than usual and becoming really overwhelmed with all he had to get done that he managed to cram into one day.

Enter the dry erase calendar. Maybe it was bought for me more than him so I could literally schedule our one-on-one time, his days off, and other personal things. Now, all Mr. M has to do is glance at the calendar and visualize what he has to do and work around the personal things. So far, it has worked well. He is less stressed and overwhelmed and we will officially have a 'No Business Weekend'! I am so looking forward to it!

And, since it's Friday, here is my fill in the blanks for the week. Join in the fun with the little things we do!

1.  When I was a kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian or a model when I grew up. The scariest for my mom was when my brother, being maybe 5 years old, decided he wanted to be an astronaut on the very same day of the Challenger tragedy. Thankfully, he has not pursued that ambition!

2.  As an adult, my dream job would be - to become a professional organizer or interior designer. If I were to be an interior designer, I could totally envision Mr. M and I combining our efforts to create a total design and build company.
3.  When I was younger, I wanted to be just like - Valerie. She was always so bubbly, had lots of friends, was incredibly kind, and was tall. How I yearned to be tall! She was my best friend for many years until my family moved to another state.

4.  The childhood Halloween costume that I remember most was when I was - a punk rocker. I had the ever popular side ponytail going on with a shiny pink 'punk-rock' skirt that my mom made for me. I also clearly remember when my brother and I were Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

5.  My favorite childhood toy was - a close tie between my Barbie dolls and my Micro Machines.

6.  The time I got into the biggest amount of trouble when I was a kid was when I - 100% honestly forgot about my curfew. I was hanging out with a few of the neighborhood kids out on the sidewalk just jibber-jabbering away. The next thing I know, I see my dad stomping up the street with his scary face on. I was totally grounded.

7.  I get daily inspiration from - nature, other people, God, and my husband.

Wear I Work - Simple and Cute

Top: Old Navy, Skirt: Tulle, Belt: Thrifted, Shoes: Old! Necklace: Modcloth
This photo was taken on yet another dreary day. I think that look on my face is a mix of 'Gah, I wish I could get my camera settings right for icky days' and 'I wish people could see my feet'.

This is one of my absolute favorite outfits. It is completely simple, yet looks very put together. And when I bought the skirt, I never would have thought I would get as much wear out of it as I am. Talk about a great purchase!

I have also learned that bib necklaces or large statement necklaces look great against a shirt with a higher neckline. Longer necklaces suit scoop necks and pendants or 'v-shaped' necklaces complement a v-neck shirt nicely.

And don't believe the widget saying the Old Navy shirts are sold out. I just checked them yesterday and they were still being sold on the Old Navy website.

Wear I Work - Simple Yet Bold

This photo treatment is much better! Is it just me, or does the whole photo seem somewhat ethereal?

Top: The Limited, Skirt: The Limited, Shoes: JustFab
It is obvious this outfit was worn on a warmer day. I have had both the top and the skirt for quite a while, but for some reason never thought to combine the two. I'm glad I did, although I could not find any belt that would work with this outfit. My brown belt was too casual, a black belt was completely out of the question (do you agree?), and my metallic belts were a definite 'no'.

If you were to add accessories to this outfit, what would they be? I was seriously lacking ideas for this outfit, so I would love to hear your thoughts.

Fill In the Blank Friday

Fall has officially set in here. The trees are getting really pretty, and as of yesterday, the air is cool and crisp. I am really amazed at how long we have gone with temperatures near 70 or so before now! It was down into the 40's overnight, so it's not surprising to me that Mr. M was caught a bit off guard when he stepped outside this morning in a t-shirt and shorts.

1.  Nothing says fall like - brilliantly colored leaves on the trees and crisp morning air.

2.  My favorite autumnal tradition is - something I am hoping to create soon. Since Mr. M and I have been married, we really have not had a chance to develop our own traditions. That's what happens when one is forced to start a business only a few months after getting married. It is just now being learned to schedule business stuff around life stuff, since days are now extremely busy with the business. New traditions, here we come!

3.  My favorite fall treat is - anything involving pumpkin! And if it was somehow incorporated into a cobbler, I would be one happy woman!

4.  Fall makes me think of sales because you can get all kinds of stuff for super cheap like jeans, swimsuits, and even cars!

5.  Autumn free-form word association, go! - changing leaves, crispness in the air, leaf piles, harvest

6.  My go-to outfit in the fall is - anything combined with a snuggly sweater.

7.  My favorite fall holiday is (Halloween or Thanksgiving) -Thanksgiving. I enjoy focusing on all that I have been blessed with through the year and sharing it with friends and family.

Come join in the fun! And have a fantastic weekend!

Wear I Work - Meh

It's official. I don't like this photo treatment.

Top: Target, Sweater: Target, Pants: Eddie Bauer, Shoes: Payless

This outfit is so much brighter than is represented in this photo. And, sadly, you can't see much color detail at all that is in the necklace.

This whole post is kind of meh. Maybe you can create a better version with items such as those below.

Wear I Work - Monochromatic

I am beginning to think I do not like this photo treatment.Because most everything in these photos are neutral, it makes me look completely washed out. Like I am dead. Which, I guess would be suitable for Halloween, but I would rather not look that way on a regular basis.

Top: Target, Pants: The Limited, Shoes: Target

There's not much to say about this look. I got this shirt several years ago and it is now trendy again. I love holding on to classic pieces that can be worn even if they aren't 'trendy' anymore. And, keeping that mindset helps to find quality pieces that will last a long time and continually make you happy when wearing them. Not that Target is considered 'quality', but since I'm not really hard on clothing, I usually manage to make pieces last for longer than they were originally intended.

Fill In the Blank Friday

For being a 4-day work week for me, this week has been incredibly slow. I am so thankful it's Friday!

I love these Fill In the Blank Fridays! If you love fill-in-the-blanks as much as I do, come join in the fun with Lauren at the little things we do.

1. The most selfless thing I've ever done was volunteered my time on a Christmas day to sing Christmas carols with a few friends, barbershop-style, to individuals living in assisted living centers and nursing homes. Oh, how I'd love the opportunity to do that more often!

2. When it comes to working out I have learned that if I tend toward high intensity workouts often, I am less likely to get results and more likely to burn out. Lately, I have been enjoying going for runs on the weekends and maybe doing one or two high intensity workouts during the week with Mr. M (if he's home early enough).

3. A woman should always respect the man she is with. An overbearing woman will destroy a man just as easily as a rough and tough man can destroy a woman. Men can be just as sensitive as women, if not moreso, and if he's the right man, his sole drive in life will be to take care of his woman and provide for her.

4. I wish I could save just a little extra money and then I'd run away with Mr. M to someplace fabulous for at least a week. We need a real vacation!

5. A best friend is one who is with you through the thick and thin. One you can share your problems with and they will actually listen. And if you haven't talked in a long time, once you do, it will feel like you haven't missed a beat.

6. I can't get enough of pumpkin swirl coffee from Dunkin Donuts! I am going to have a serious caffeine hangover once Fall is over and they stop selling it!

7. This weekend I am not sure what is going on. I may or may not be heading north with Mr. M to pick up a tool for a job he needs during the upcoming week. If I don't go with him, I am considering some DIY projects and lots of relaxation.

I hope you have a splendid weekend! Enjoy the fall colors if you can!

Wear I Work - Skirt or Dress?

I think I look a bit washed-out with this photo treatment. The colors are still okay, although I think I lost some of the brighter colors that are in the dress.

Dress: Downeast Basics, Sweater: New York & Company, Shoes: unknown, Belt: Target

Yes, this is a dress made to look like just a skirt. I am excited to try this with several of my dresses once the weather gets a lot cooler.

I also just found subtle leopard print tights on clearance from Target. I am already thinking of outfits to combine them with!

Wear I Work - New Feature!

So, I am trying yet another photo treatment. This one I definitely like better than the last, but I am still not sure if it is what I will stick with. We'll see...

Also, I had been thinking about other ways to make the Wear I Work series a bit more interesting. I have decided to add a widget (or whatever you would want to call it) that will allow you to purchase the same or similar pieces to what my outfit has in it. Fun? For me, it definitely is! For you? I guess we'll wait and see.

For now, here is the first of the new addition to the Wear I Work series! Enjoy!

Fill In the Blank Friday

1.  Something popular that I can't stand/just don't "get" is - two things: 1. fake mustaches and 2. overpriced 'gourmet' cupcakes. Regarding the mustaches, do people really buy them on sticks to hold them up to their face and think they are all cute? Or draw them on their fingers? What is the whole point and why are people drawn to them? And the cupcakes? They better have some gold powder or diamonds in them for the prices I have seen! I could make the same kinds at home for much, MUCH less than what I have seen some being sold for.

2.  Something unpopular that I secretly love is - reading with a regular book. With all of the hullabaloo about e-readers lately, it seems regular paper books are so last century. I love the feel of holding a good book and turning its pages. Plus, if you have an e-reader, you can't let somebody 'borrow' your book! What fun is that? Then I couldn't put cute bookplates inside my books.

3.  When I've had a bad day, I - tend to curl up into my own shell and want to cross-stitch all night.

4.  I'd prefer pumpkin coffee to pumpkin pie any day.

5.  Something that makes me nervous is -being a passenger in the front seat of a car. That and the thought of presenting something to a bunch of people. I have not done it in so long, I think I am totally out of practice.

6.  Something worth fighting for is - my marriage. Not that we necessarily need fighting for it right now as we are continually ironing out wrinkles and learning more about each other. But, because a marriage is a lot of work, some days it can seem like a daily fight. And to stay together knowing that you love each other is so worth it!

7.  When people think of me, I hope they think - that I am a genuine person that expresses her own individuality. Someone that loves God and loves all people without judgement.

Come join in the fun with the little things we do and have a great weekend! I am looking forward to the forecasted sunny skies and awesome temperatures!

Wear I Work - Brown and Blurry

Dress: Target, Cami: Gap, Shoes: Missoni for Target, Belt: Unknown, Necklace: Loft

Just my luck. The very first day I wear my new Missoni for Target shoes is the day it decides to rain. Not like it hadn't rained buckets and I thought I saw an ark the week before. I did not get a chance to put any water proof stuff on them yet, but that is in the works for sure! Also, thanks to such a gloomy day, my camera was not having fun trying to take pictures in natural light. It seemed that if I blinked, the whole picture was blurry. Therefore, the flash was used for the last two pictures, although I hate using flash.

But, hey, at least you can see the shoes clearly in all three photos.

Wear I Work - Springing for Fall

Top: Ann Taylor, Sweater: Target, Jeans: New York & Company, Shoes: Target (similar), Necklace: Modcloth
I am so glad Fall is finally here! I am so incredibly excited for cooler weather and crisp mornings and evenings. The pumpkin coffee from Dunkin Donuts is so awesome, and I really have to control myself with it. I would probably buy it every day until they stopped selling it if my stomach would let me. My usual thing is to grab a coffee before I go grocery shopping on the weekend and I am really enjoying that time for coffee. It seems to make me a bit less rushed and overwhelmed with my grocery shopping. And if Mr. M happens to not be working, he will accompany me for our usual weekend breakfast at Dunkin Donuts and we leave with our coffees in hand.

Okay, so that was completely opposite of what I originally wanted to write. What I really wanted to say was that although I am happy for Fall to arrive, I am not looking forward to some of the darker colors. If you have not noticed already, I love using color in my wardrobe. And I am determined to continue to do so. Who says you have to stop wearing bright colors just because it gets cooler and more gloomy come Winter?

As an aside, I was just in The Limited the other day and saw some of their new arrivals. I am happy to report that at least they are still rolling out the color!
