Fill In The Blank Friday

1.  My current obsession is - pumpkin swirl coffee from Dunkin Donuts. I love the special flavors of fall!

2.  Curling up with a magazine during the weekend- makes me happy.

3.  My greatest strength is - my faith in God and all that comes with it.

4.  Dealing with change - is my greatest weakness.

5.  My life is - ever-changing, but incredibly exciting. Well, exciting to me, at least. Although I do not do well with change, I am getting better at thinking of life as one great adventure with interesting twists and turns.

6.  In high school I was - one that did not identify with any particular clique. I got along with just about everybody. I was also extremely quiet and rather shy, unless I was singing. And that is the total opposite of how I identify myself now.

7.  When I'm super tired - I get extremely cranky. Mr. M knows to just stay away.

Come join in the blanky fun! And have a glorious weekend!

Wear I Work - Work It Wednesday

workitwednesday

Jill, at Good Life for Less, started up her Work It Wednesday again! This is my first contribution and I am working the kelly green. Hopefully, I will be able to participate more often, especially now that I am getting the hang of this fashion blogging thing. At least, I hope I am...

Wear I Work - I Mean Business and I Like Discounts

The $20 eShakti discount has been extended! I posted all of the details about it here. It is now extended through October 31. So, if you have not yet had a chance to check out their goodies, you have plenty of time to do so with the discount. Being a frugal one, I have not yet decided what will be next to add to my closet from them and that is mostly because I have a hard time picking just one thing to order. Decisions, decisions...

Why is it that I find it difficult to pair different things with this dress? It is just a simple grey dress! Maybe I am just not as imaginative as I think I am sometimes, especially when it comes to grey dresses. Or, maybe I will have more ideas once the weather gets cooler. I must find more inspiration for this dress.

Wear I Work - Stripes, Flowers, and Sadness

This weekend was spent with my family in Pennsylvania. I do believe it was much needed as I had not seen my parents for quite some time. It really amazes me how just seeing my parents perks me up so much and I feel 'whole' again. Don't be mistaken. I insanely love Mr. M and we have a wonderful relationship, but there's just nothing like being with family.

My parents live very close to several areas that were severely damaged by flooding resulting from tropical storm Lee. I had seen photos online of some of the devastation, and it was very hard to stomach, but on Saturday, we drove through Bloomsburg, one of the hardest hit areas in the region in which my parents live.

Source
The road coming into Bloomsburg is to the right of the homes in the photo. When I first saw this photo, I was shocked. To see a home completely pushed off of its foundation is incredibly heartbreaking. It was even more heartbreaking to see it in person. Homes that had been standing there for over 100 years are no more in just a matter of a day or so. The streets were lined with waterlogged items from individual homes. My heart broke for every individual involved in the flooding and I continue to pray for them. Especially those that may not have had flood insurance and have lost everything.

The human race is incredibly resilient, and I know Bloomsburg will get back on its feet in no time. Still, seeing those homes will haunt me. I could not imagine what it would be like to see my own home inundated with flood waters and not having the ability to do anything about it. Because the flooding is now over you do not hear about it as much in the media, if at all. But, please, please, please continue to keep not only these flood victims in your prayers, but those that suffered further north from flooding from Irene. Our lives may be normal right now, but theirs certainly are not.

Writer's Workshop - Where I'm From

I haven't participated in a writer's workshop with Mama Kat in a long time, but today's workshop uses a template. And I am a huge fan of templates and fill-in-the-blank (hello, Fill-In-the-Blank Friday). So, I figured I'd give this a shot. Will you join?

I am from alphabet magnets clicked on the side of the stove in the middle of the night. From Lucky Charms with all of the marshmallows saved until last.

I am from the new Naval base every 3 years or so, where there seems to be a box that is never fully unpacked.

I am from the morning glories growing on the back fence, which were then used as a secret code word, and the sea grass rustling with the waves lapping gently along the shore.

I am from homemade pizza picnic night on the living room floor and tiny bones with big noses, from Steve and Corrine Slodysko.

I am from the loud, cacophonous bantering of relatives at family gatherings, and Christmas Eve dinners where someone surprises the kids dressed as Santa delivering gifts, and bingo games around Grandma's kitchen table.

From "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite..." with other phrases tacked on to create the longest "good night" ever, and "It's upstairs behind the wallpaper in Maggie's room."

I am from always knowing about God but never really going to church, at least until I was older. One parent that is committed to Christ, and the other I know nothing about.

I'm from the south with parents from the north, German (Pennsylvania Dutch), Czech, and Polish, halushki and German potato salad.

From the brother who climbed inside my play stove and had it fall forward so he couldn't get out, the friends wanting to surprise me with a going-away party at school at the same time there was a dance and I was too afraid to go, the drawing of "Welcome Home" posters for Dad when he would come home from sea duty.

I am from old-school albums tucked with mementos of the whole family from beginning to present, newspaper clippings, and locks of baby hair. From photos of school friends tucked away in boxes intermingled with notes passed during school, ticket stubs, and playbills.

From Mom's never-ending sacrifice to always do what is needed for her family, putting her family before herself always, and Dad's never-ending quest to provide for his family that he loves so very much although he doesn't tend to show it often. From a family that I hope to emulate whenever I start my own.

Fill In the Blank Friday

Happy Friday everybody! I am totally looking forward to the fall weather we are supposed to have here this weekend. Hello open windows and cool breezes!

1.  You should always take time to - find a quiet place to enjoy just being calm and to unwind. I am still learning how to do this and am thoroughly enjoying it.

2.  Being married to Mr. M makes the world a happier place to be. He has such a positive outlook on life and never fails to make me or anybody else laugh.

3.  I can hardly wait for -the cool weather to come and STAY!

4.  Saturday is my favorite day of the week.

5.  Something dumb and totally ridiculous that I love is - the Planet Fitness commercials. "I lift things up and put things down".

6.  If I could, I would - travel the world.

7.  I rather like - happening upon little critters doing little critter things.

Enjoy your weekend!

Wear I Work - That Red Shirt Again

Sorry for the late post today. I have no excuse except for being lazy and allowing myself to get distracted with other stuff like an unexpected doctor visit, maintenance coming by to fix my house (parts still are not fixed), Missoni for Target distracting me, etc.

I decided to try a new photo treatment, but I am not sure if I like it. In some ways I do because it seems to add a bit of depth. But, on the other hand, I think I tend to lose some detail. What do you think?

I worked from home yesterday so I could be around when maintenance and other random fix-it men stopped by to fix some water damage from Irene, our broken brick door sill, and other little things. Lucky for me, the Missoni for Target launch was the same day. Serendipitous? I do think so.

I got to Target not long after they opened, which I think was also a drawback because they did not have everything from the launch out on the shelves yet. I did try on a few pieces of clothing, but ultimately just ended up with their suede pumps. I could have bought so much more, but I didn't really NEED anything else.

I love, love, love them! I have been looking for black closed-toe pumps for the cooler weather, and these are just perfect. Having the notes of brown on them make them super versatile all while being really comfortable. Did you know that not only do they have a genuine suede upper, but the sole is genuine leather, too? That's a first for me! And, being thrifty as I am, I had recently scored a Target gift card for trading in some old electronics, so I made my own sale price for these shoes. I felt pretty triumphant.

Wear I Work - Good for a Casual Night Out

After wearing this to work, I realized I finally have an outfit that is suitable for a casual date night! For the longest time, on those rare occasions that Mr. M and I decide to go on an actual date, I would stare at my closet wondering what would be appropriate. You know, something a little nicer than everyday wear, but not something over-the-top. And, this outfit is officially it! Now we have to go on another date.

Fill In the Blank Friday

I am so thankful today is finally Friday. I have driven in nasty rain every day this week. Thank you rain train! On the upside, it has really helped me overcome a lot of my anxiety in traffic. On the downside, my body is literally in one big knot. Another upside? My car is probably going to look cleaner than ever!

1.  Somewhere, someone is making a silly face at themselves in the mirror.

2.  Nature is/are my muse.

3.  It would suck if coffee was no more because that is my weekend treat that I always look forward to.

4.  Being able to leave work a little early is/are my favorite thing about today.

5.  Life is kind of like a never ending test of your faith, with tons of tough times to get through, but also a ton more blessings to go along with it.

6.  If I could have anything I wanted, I would want a house that I could call my own and decorate in whatever way pleases me, including painting the walls!

7.  A funny thing happened the other day... but I can't recall what it was.

Have a wonderful weekend! And my prayers go out to all of those, including friends and family, that are affected by the flooding in the northeast. Stay safe!

Wear I Work - Closet Adjustments Needed

Photobucket

Sorry for the blurry top picture. I didn't realize it was blurry until I got it here. I should pay more attention. Or maybe just take better pictures.

Since I have been posting outfits and dreaming up new ways of wearing the clothes I already own, I have started to realize that there are some things that I feel I am lacking in my wardrobe. And there are other things that I seem to have too much of.

I have a ton of shirts and have noticed that I gravitate toward the same shirts over and over again. This has me wondering if I actually need those other shirts that I do not wear very often. Also, in regards to my shirts, I have way too many that would be classified as plain t-shirts and not enough that would be classified as blouses or interesting tops. I think I need to start expanding my horizons with something like these.

Another item in my wardrobe that needs some readjusting? Pants! I seem to have a plethora of casual jeans and not enough dark ones that are appropriate for work or extra special things. Also, I just have way too many jeans. Is that possible? In that, I mean I have more jeans than anything else. I have maybe two or three pairs of dress pants, but I feel I need to invest in a pair of pants that are appropriate for just about anything but are not jeans. Anna from In Honor of Design recently inspired me with her outfit.

Aren't her pants the cutest? I love her whole outfit! I must find cute pants!

Also, I have a TON of neutral colored shoes. I have maybe one or two fun pairs in fun colors, but they're not comfortable enough to wear all the time. I need a punch of color in a shoe that is comfortable, too. Maybe something like these?

I am saving my pennies to go on a fall shopping trip soon. I am hoping I stick to my guns and buy things I really, truly love and that are great quality. When it comes to wardrobes, I really am starting to believe that I should have quality over quantity.

Wear I Work - Big Skirt, Little Head

Photobucket
Top: New York & Company, Skirt: Tulle, Shoes: Payless

That first picture makes me think of the end scene in Beetlejuice. My head just looks so tiny!

I guess this could also be considered a colorblock post, although it seems the hot colors right now are pink and orange, like I wore here.

The skirt is a little longer than what I usually wear, especially since I have short legs. But, because I ordered it online and it has a more vintage-like cut to it, I did not want to get it hemmed. So, I'll just wear lighter colored shoes or shoes with a longer vamp. Imogen's blog Inside Out Style has been my style bible ever since I discovered it. She provides excellent information about all body types and ways to style each one. One of my fave posts is for lengthening short legs.

Fill In the Blank Friday

1.  One thing that is completely superfluous, but that I could never give up is - my coupon/shopping list organizer. To the OCD organizational me, it is an absolute necessity. To the majority of you, it probably doesn't mean much at all. I think I would lose my mind if I did not have it for my grocery trips.

2.  Trying to figure out how to ask my neighbor to move her dirty diaper bin from our shared front stoop makes me feel awkward. Does anybody have any suggestions?

3.  I can't get through a whole work week without having anxiety in traffic. I am working on getting better about it, but it is an ongoing, and sometimes arduous, process.

4.  Strawberries with whipped cream is my favorite snack.

5.  Lately I've been looking forward to fall and this month. My in-laws are coming in to town for the Labor Day weekend, and my mom will be coming to visit at the end of the month. I am so excited!

6.  If at first you don't succeed - it is okay to feel like crap for a bit. But, it is more important to pick yourself back up as quickly as possible and realize that without failure there is no success.

7.  Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love how the humidity just magically goes away and the nights become cool and crisp. I must find a good fall jacket soon. My old one is way too old and raggedy, and I think it smells funny. I'm thinking something like this may be a winner this season.
